National Security Program
This program includes the following
elements:
*Supporting our military
*Being prepared for civil emergencies
*Supporting ROTC & JROTC
*Promoting, planning and attending
Awareness Assemblies
Individual members, as well as Units and
Departments
supply ideas, funds and volunteer hours.
Military
Support includes:
Blue Star Service Banners
Created in 1917 and a common sight during
WWI and WWII.
The banner is displayed to show that a
family member
or employee is currently serving in the
Armed Forces.
Gold Star Service Banners
Displayed to show that the service member
has died while serving.
USO
This stands for United Service
Organizations.
This idea was conceived in 1941 in
response to a request
from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt
that private organizations
handle the on-leave recreation of service
members.
Operation USO Care Package provides an
assortment of toiletries,
phone cards, cameras, etc with personal
greetings from the donors
to those who are deployed and to those who
pass through
the centers on their way to serve.
Toastie Toes
This is an opportunity to knit or crochet
slippers or headbands
for the persons serving in our Armed
Forces outside of the USA.
POW/MIA
Education of our members and the Public on
the plight of the missing.
Fly the Flag on Armed Forces Day, Memorial
Day, Independence Day,
National POW/MIA Recognition Day and
Veterans Day.
Comfort Quilts
Established by two Marine mothers with the
purpose of providing quilts for the
next of kin of Marines lost overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
They now
include and serve all branches of the Armed Forces.
