Marie Cooney Memorial Plaque
To be awarded by the
Department Poppy Chairman.

The purpose of this award is
to stimulate interest and activity in Window/Public Displays for Poppy
competition.
Any Unit in the Department
of Arizona may compete for this award. Provided the Unit complies with the
following provisions:
- Poppy Window/Public Display Contest sponsored by
either Juniors or Seniors of the Unit. A contest can have as few as two
entries.
- The winning display must be shown the week
proceeding the Unit Poppy Day. This display should also be available to
show at the American Legion Auxiliary Convention if at all possible.
- Each display must have its main theme as “The
Poppy” and must include the wording American Legion Auxiliary. Do not use
the word “buddy”.
- You may use one or all of these themes in any
combination, the story of the Poppy, use of Poppy Proceeds, Flanders
Field, miniature cemetery, battlefields, field of poppies and poppy
decorations. If this display uses the Cross, then the Star of David must
be included.
- There is no narrative required for this plaque.
- A black and white or color picture 8 X 10 shall
be submitted to the Department Chairman for judging.
- The Unit deadline date is May 15th,
2007 for the receipt of this picture by the Department Chairman to leave
time to judge fairly.
The judging of this picture
will be by three auxiliary members selected randomly. These auxiliary members will be appointed by the Department
Chairman and will meet prior to Department Convention.
This award shall become the
permanent property of any Unit that wins it for three consecutive years. The
permanent winner must place another plaque in the Department competition, rules
and name shall remain the same.
