The Veterans Day Parade is a chance to tie membership into the poppy program by using specially made program activity and eligibility for the legion family with a poppy stapled to it. One of the things found out during the parade was the short time one of the Legionnaires stood by the can and the poppies, the increase in donations went up incrementally. For every dollar we had been getting for donations, the dressed up Legionnaire wearing his cap received five dollars.

This taught us really quickly that from now on, we will talk a Legionnaire into being with us during a distribution.

Poppy Chairman during May sets up a memorial garden like a miniature Flanders Field in the Post Clubroom. Members can for a small donation have a “Cross” or a “Star of David” placed with the name of a loved one who has passed away on it. A poppy is also placed in the garden with a flag by each “Cross” or “Star of David”.

This garden is created using Styrofoam over a wood board with artificial grass over the Styrofoam. Crosses are made with popsicle sticks painted white.

Poppy plates are also available for those wishing their name to be placed on the plate and posted on the club room wall. These plates also contain a flag, 3 poppies and the Auxiliary emblem.
