Eligibility in the American Legion and Legion Family

 

April 6, 1917 to Nov 11, 1918 (World War I)

 

Dec 7, 1941 to Dec 31, 1946 (World War II)

 

June 25, 1950 to Jan 31, 1955 (Korean War)

 

Feb 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)

 

Aug 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Granada)

 

Dec 20, 1989 to Jan 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause Panama)

 

Aug 2, 1990 until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the

government of the United States (Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm)

 

Service of a minimum of one day during these date ranges is required for

membership in the American Legion as a Legionnaire.

 

You may still be eligible for our Sons of the American Legion through family

affiliations if your years of service did not fall within these dates. Please check

the Sons of the American Legion requirements.

 

You may still be eligible for our Auxiliary through family affiliations if your years of

service did not fall within these dates. Please check the Auxiliary requirements.

 

To join the Legion Riders in Tempe, you must be eligible and join one of the

other organizations. Included are Legion, Auxiliary and the Sons of the American

Legion.
